Job Summary

Staff Accountant (CONTRACT)

You are an experienced Staff Accountant who enjoys working in a collaborative, design-focused environment while supporting project-based accounting operations. In this role, you will partner closely with the Controller and accounting team to manage day-to-day accounting activities, project billing, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate brings strong full-cycle accounting experience, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced professional services environment.

This position pays: $40-50/hour depending on experience 

Location: San Francisco, CA (Hybrid – In Office Tuesdays & Thursdays)

  What you will be doing:

  • Manage accounts payable activities, including invoice processing, coding, and vendor communications
  • Process employee expense reports and ensure accurate coding and reimbursement
  • Reconcile and maintain company credit card accounts and supporting documentation
  • Support accounts receivable functions, including client invoicing and collections follow-up
  • Perform project billing, time and expense billing, and invoice preparation
  • Review project financial information to ensure accurate billing and project tracking
  • Manage approximately active projects
  • Assist with month-end billing processes and project accounting activities
  • Prepare account reconciliations and maintain accurate financial records
  • Collaborate with project managers and internal teams regarding project financial performance
  • Support weekly payment processing and vendor management activities
  • Utilize Deltek Vantagepoint or similar project accounting software to manage project financial data
  • Partner closely with the Controller and Senior Accountants on day-to-day accounting operations
  • Contribute to process improvements and support special projects as needed

What you bring:

  • 4+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a project-based environment
  • Strong accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and reconciliation experience
  • Project accounting and project billing experience required
  • Time and expense billing experience strongly preferred
  • Deltek Vantagepoint experience preferred but not required
  • Interior design, architecture, engineering, construction, consulting, or other project-based industry experience highly desirable
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial processes
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software systems
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Self-starter who works effectively both independently and collaboratively
  • Professional, customer-service-oriented approach with strong interpersonal skills
