Job Summary

Accountant  - Non Profit (Contract-to-hire)
San Rafael, CA - Onsite

You are an Accountant to support the financial operations of a nonprofit organization by performing a wide range of accounting and bookkeeping functions, with a strong emphasis on payroll processing, accounts payable, client fund management, reconciliations, and financial reporting. This role works closely with the Accounting Manager, HR, program staff, and external accounting teams to ensure accurate and timely financial operations.

This position pays: $40.00 to $50.00 per hour

What you will be doing:

  • Process biweekly payroll through a third-party payroll system in collaboration with HR
  • Manage employer benefit contributions and post payroll-related journal entries
  • Prepare and post month-end journal entries
  • Reconcile credit card expenses and post transactions to the general ledger monthly
  • Manage client fund receipts through direct and manual deposits
  • Prepare approved client fund disbursements and checks requested by case managers
  • Support ongoing improvements in client fund management, budgeting, and reporting processes
  • Process direct deposits, donations, and other cash receipts
  • Prepare bank reconciliations and reconcile selected balance sheet accounts
  • Reconcile client receipts with billing reports, bank statements, and accounting records
  • Log checks and credit card receipts, including proper general ledger and grant allocations
  • Assist with internal and external financial reporting
  • Support tax filings and other regulatory filings
  • Perform additional accounting and administrative duties as assigned

What you bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in full-cycle accounting and cash/bank account management
  • Experience processing payroll and accounts payable
  • Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
  • Commitment to providing excellent service to clients, staff, and the community
