Job Summary

Senior Accountant - Inventory General Ledger (CONTRACT) 

You are a detail-oriented and analytical accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys owning complex general ledger accounting responsibilities. In this role, you will support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities, financial reporting, inventory accounting, reconciliations, accruals, and variance analysis. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in accounting principles, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to partner cross-functionally to solve problems and meet critical deadlines.

This position pays: $40-45/hour depending on experience

Location: Emeryville, CA (Hybrid)

What you will be doing:

  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual General Ledger close processes
  • Prepare and post journal entries
  • Complete account reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Analyze financial data and prepare accruals for financial liabilities
  • Research and resolve accounting issues and discrepancies
  • Perform variance analysis for assigned accounts and business areas
  • Investigate fluctuations and provide explanations for financial results
  • Partner with department leaders to understand operational and financial impacts
  • Assist with financial reporting and reporting package preparation
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records
  • Review transactions and determine appropriate accounting treatment
  • Support inventory accounting and inventory-related reconciliations
  • Assist with month-end and year-end audit requests
  • Escalate and resolve accounting issues in a timely manner
  • Maintain compliance with accounting policies and procedures
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the accounting function
  • Analyze financial trends and identify potential risks or opportunities
  • Assist management with special projects and ad hoc reporting requests
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business objectives
  • Meet strict deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy

What you bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Strong General Ledger accounting experience
  • Experience supporting month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close
  • Advanced account reconciliation skills
  • Journal entry preparation experience
  • Accrual accounting knowledge
  • Variance analysis and financial reporting experience
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting principles
  • Inventory accounting experience preferred
  • Retail industry experience preferred
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Proficiency with ERP systems and accounting software
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Continuous improvement mindset
  • Professional, proactive, and results-oriented approach
