Job Summary

Controller - Electrical Contractor
Petaluma, CA

You are a hands-on Controller with a strong background in construction or the trades to lead and own all accounting and financial operations for our growing electrical business. This role is ideal for a proactive professional who thrives in a small-company environment, enjoys building structure and process, and understands the financial nuances of job costing, liens, and project-based accounting.

This position pays: $60.00 to $65.00 per hour

What you will be doing:

  • Own all accounting functions including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, and month-end close
  • Manage job costing, project financial tracking, and profitability analysis
  • Oversee lien waivers, lien rights, and construction-related compliance documentation
  • Develop, implement, and improve financial systems, controls, and reporting processes
  • Prepare and present monthly financial statements and performance reports to ownership
  • Manage cash flow forecasting, budgeting, and financial planning
  • Coordinate with external CPA for tax filings and year-end reporting
  • Support operational leadership with financial insights and decision-making analysis
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and reporting requirements

What you bring:

  • 5+ years of accounting leadership experience, preferably as a Controller or Senior Accountant
  • Strong background in construction, electrical contracting, or skilled trades environment
  • Deep understanding of job costing and construction accounting principles
  • Experience managing liens, lien waivers, and construction compliance documentation
  • Proven ability to implement and improve financial processes in a growing business
  • Hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves mentality with strong attention to detail
  • Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel skills
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to partner with operations leadership
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred but not required)
