Inventory Strategy Analyst – Retail segment

Emeryville, CA – Hybrid schedule
You are an Inventory Strategy Analyst who plays a critical, hands-on role within the Strategy team, responsible for managing the inventory health of assigned Grocery departments across stores and warehouses. This position blends analytical rigor with operational execution, partnering closely with Purchasing, Merchandising, Distribution Centers, and Store Operators to ensure optimal inventory levels, profitability, and product flow. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and makes sound, data-driven decisions to support company growth.
This position pays: $48.00 to $50.00 per hour
What you will be doing:
- Analyze sales, units, and margin at the SKU, category, and program level to recommend strategies that maximize revenue and inventory turns
- Manage departmental financial plans, including Open-to-Buy and inventory forecasts
- Ensure appropriate inventory levels through demand planning, forecasting, and trend analysis
- Own forecast accuracy for sales dollars, advertising, and case projections
- Present analytics and insights to various levels of management
- Manage warehouse-level inventory and execute inter-warehouse transfers as needed
- Generate daily, weekly, and monthly aging and inventory health reports
- Forecast and manage Made-to-Order items and in-stock levels in partnership with buyers
- Identify and resolve potential inventory risks, including code date and aging issues
- Execute product allocation aligned with the company’s “Treasure Hunt” philosophy
- Support regional and seasonal assortment strategies, accounting for climate and market differences
- Build inventory plans to support new store openings
- Partner with Store Operators to drive profitable sales, merchandising, and inventory results
- Manage order flow to balance sales, margin, inventory, and distribution center capacity
- Develop entry, exit, and in-season pricing strategies for new, seasonal, and discontinued items
- Build and maintain strong relationships with buyers, vendors, distribution centers, and internal partners
What you bring:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and at least 2 years of relevant experience
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make quick, sound decisions
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in MS Office applications; advanced Excel skills preferred; AS400 experience a plus
- Solid understanding of margins, discounts, forecasting, and inventory metrics
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presenting to internal teams and suppliers
- High attention to detail, organization, and customer service mindset
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across functions
- A hands-on, “roll-up-your-sleeves” attitude suited to a flat organization
- Passion for inventory management, process improvement, and business growth
- Creativity, resourcefulness, and ownership over assigned categories
