Accountant (CONTRACT)

You are a reliable, detail-oriented Part-Time Bookkeeping / Accountant who will step in during a critical transition period to support a small nonprofit finance team. This role is designed to provide immediate relief while the organization searches for permanent staff, with the potential to evolve into broader responsibilities for the right person. You’ll work closely with the Director of Finance, Operations & Administration and the Finance & Operations Specialist to keep core accounting and donor processes moving forward.

This position pays: $34-37/hour

Location: Richmond, CA 

  • KN95 masks required in office (provided)

What you will be doing:

  • Enter Donor Advised Fund (DAF) donations received via check and EFT into the organization’s donation tracking spreadsheet
  • Record individual and business donor check and Neon donation details into donor spreadsheets for audit and year-end reporting
  • Update donor and membership records in Neon based on mailed check payments
  • Support month-end close by entering and reconciling GL data from Neon into monthly accounting spreadsheets
  • Prepare, update, and maintain donor spreadsheets used for reporting, audits, and compliance
  • Enter accounts payable transactions in BILL for administrative expenses
  • Assist with occasional manual check processing (currently in QuickBooks; transitioning to FundEZ)
  • Convert Neon data into clean, uploadable CSV files for accounting and reporting purposes
  • File and organize AP, deposit documentation, payroll packets, timesheets, and compliance records in SharePoint
  • Scan and archive paper records where legally required
  • Provide general accounting and operational support to the finance team as needed
  • Collaborate closely with Manisha and Agustin on urgent, time-sensitive tasks during the transition period

What you bring:

  • 1–2 years of hands-on bookkeeping or accounting experience
  • Strong Excel skills (required) with comfort working in spreadsheets
  • Experience with accounts payable and basic GL support
  • Comfort learning new systems and workflows quickly
  • Prior exposure to nonprofit accounting is a plus
  • Familiarity with BILL.com strongly preferred
  • Experience working with donor databases or fundraising systems (e.g., Neon) is a plus
  • High attention to detail, strong follow-through, and comfort working in a small, collaborative team
  • Flexible, team-player mindset in a fast-moving, mission-driven environment
