A respected, family-oriented wine production facility in St. Helena is seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic to support facility operations and equipment reliability. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong mechanical, electrical, and troubleshooting skills who enjoys hands-on work in a fast-paced production environment.

This position plays a key role in maintaining production equipment, supporting safe plant operations, and contributing to a collaborative, craftsmanship-focused culture.

Job Summary

Under general supervision, the Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for performing a wide range of skilled maintenance tasks, including mechanical repair, electrical work, carpentry, and equipment troubleshooting. The role requires a solid understanding of production systems, strong problem-solving ability, and the flexibility to support off-shift work during harvest.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and repairs on production equipment, facilities, and systems

  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues

  • Provide journey-level support across one or more skilled trade areas

  • Conduct carpentry, plumbing, painting, mechanical, and electrical repairs as needed

  • Read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics

  • Operate and troubleshoot PLC-related systems

  • Perform basic welding and fabrication

  • Assist with installation, modification, and servicing of equipment

  • Follow all housekeeping, cleaning, and safety standards

  • Work off-shifts as required during harvest season

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • 3–5 years of experience in a winery, food/beverage, or similar production environment

  • Completion of an apprenticeship or equivalent training for journey-level recognition

  • Strong knowledge of production equipment (presses, de-stemmers, pumps, etc.)

  • Working knowledge of tools, codes, and procedures in relevant skilled trade areas

  • Ability to read schematics and troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems

  • Basic welding/fabrication skills; manual mill and lathe experience a plus

  • Must be able to speak, read, and write English

  • Must adhere to all safety procedures and regulations
