Tax Accountant (CONTRACT)

You are a detail-oriented and collaborative accounting professional who thrives in a fully in-person environment. You bring a strong foundation in accounting principles, experience preparing complex tax returns, and the ability to work closely with partners and staff on challenging tax engagements. You are committed to professional growth and eager to contribute to a Partner-in-Training program.

This position pays: $35–$45/hour depending on experience

Location: San Francisco, CA

What you will be doing:

• Preparing complex tax returns for individuals, corporations, and partnerships
• Performing and reviewing adjusting journal entries and ensuring accuracy of the general ledger
• Supporting month-end and year-end close processes, reconciliations, and workpapers
• Collaborating closely with partners and staff in an in-office team environment on complex, often international, tax matters
• Participating in a Partner-in-Training program designed to develop technical and leadership skills
• Upholding firm policies and contributing to a culture of professionalism, integrity, and collaboration
• Attending in-person assessments prior to interview (instructions test, journal entry assessment, and aptitude/personality questionnaire)

What you bring:

• Strong knowledge of accounting principles (debits/credits, journal entries, GL)
• Experience preparing tax returns for individuals, corporations, and partnerships
• Familiarity with generally accepted auditing standards and audit procedures
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a professional demeanor
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fully in-office environment
• Willingness to begin workdays at 8:30 a.m. with the full team
• Commitment to professional growth, including willingness to study for and obtain CPA licensure if not already licensed
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
• Sound judgment and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
• Resiliency and adaptability in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
