Payroll Specialist (CONTRACT)

You are detail-oriented Payroll Specialist who can step in immediately to manage payroll for a multi-state, unionized workforce. You are comfortable working closely with leadership, meeting strict deadlines, and ensuring accuracy and compliance in every payroll cycle. This role is fast-paced, fully onsite, and offers the possibility of converting to permanent.

This position pays: $30-35/hour

Location: Santa Rosa, CA

What you will be doing:

• Processing biweekly payroll for approximately 600 employees
• Handling payroll across two unions and multiple states
• Managing all payroll through Paycom
• Reconciling payroll records, deductions, and garnishments
• Assisting with annual audit preparation and ongoing audit tasks
• Partnering with the CFO and HR Manager on payroll and compliance issues
• Ensuring accurate benefit deductions and employer contributions
• Addressing employee payroll questions and resolving discrepancies
• Supporting payroll compliance with state, federal, and union requirements
• Getting up to speed quickly and maintaining payroll deadlines without delay

What you bring:

• Bachelor’s degree required
• Strong experience in payroll processing, reconciliations, and compliance
• Knowledge of multi-state and union payroll practices
• Familiarity with Paycom or similar payroll systems
• Ability to manage audits and prepare accurate documentation
• Detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and able to work independently
• Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with Finance and HR
• Adaptability to step into a busy environment and contribute immediately
