You are a hands-on and detail-oriented Metrology Set Up Technician with strong experience in dimensional metrology, calibration, inspection, and measurement systems. You understand CMMs, optical measurement, 3D scanning, GD&T, fixturing, and datum strategy, and you take pride in building accurate, reliable, and repeatable measurement processes. You are comfortable helping establish a new metrology lab, developing procedures, training others, and supporting both research and production teams.

This position pays: $38-$52

What you will be doing

  • Prepare the facility for instrument arrival by verifying environmental controls, vibration isolation, power, and bench requirements against manufacturer specifications.

  • Manage the receipt, installation, calibration, commissioning, and operational readiness of metrology equipment.

  • Develop SOPs, safety procedures, measurement methods, and operator qualification standards for each instrument.

  • Perform initial operations on new equipment and create internal manuals and reference documentation.

  • Establish calibration schedules, measurement traceability, and gage R&R practices to ensure measurement uncertainty is understood and controlled.

  • Source, organize, store, and maintain inventory of fixtures, probes, styli, standards, and other metrology supplies.

  • Inspect parts against engineering drawings and GD&T requirements for both research and production needs.

  • Generate accurate measurement data in formats that can be effectively used by engineering, production, and other downstream teams.

  • Partner with machine tool and process teams when parts are out of specification and provide measurement feedback to improve manufacturing processes.

  • Support the safe, compliant, and reliable operation of metrology equipment while maintaining equipment readiness and uptime.

What you bring

  • Hands-on experience with dimensional metrology, including CMM programming and operation, optical measurement, and 3D scanning.

  • Strong understanding of fixturing, datum strategy, GD&T, and engineering drawing interpretation.

  • Experience with calibration, measurement traceability, and evaluating measurement uncertainty.

  • Familiarity with optical microscopy, spectroscopy, surface metrology, and mechanical testing equipment.

  • Experience working with measurement software and organizing measurement data for use by other teams.

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to distinguish actual part deviations from measurement artifacts.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a service-oriented approach when supporting research and production teams.

  • Ability to work independently, take ownership, and establish processes in a developing manufacturing environment.

  • Curiosity and willingness to understand how measurement data is used to improve manufacturing processes and technology.
