Compensation: $35–$45/hour DOE
A growing advanced manufacturing company in Sonoma County is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist / Model Maker II to support the development of new products and manufacturing processes. This role is ideal for a highly skilled machinist who enjoys prototype development, precision machining, tooling design, and collaborating with engineering and R&D teams.
Position Summary
The CNC Machinist / Model Maker II will create prototypes, tooling, fixtures, dies, and jigs to support new product development and manufacturing improvements. This position requires a combination of CNC programming, manual machining expertise, and precision inspection skills in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Program, set up, and operate CNC mills and lathes to manufacture precision prototype components.
- Design and build tooling, fixtures, jigs, and dies to support new product development.
- Operate manual machine shop equipment, including mills, lathes, grinders, drill presses, and saws.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Perform precision inspections using measuring instruments to verify quality and tolerances.
- Troubleshoot machining processes and recommend improvements.
- Maintain accurate documentation while following quality and manufacturing procedures.
- Collaborate with Engineering and R&D teams to support prototype development and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED; formal machine tool technology training preferred.
- Approximately 5 years of CNC machining and model shop experience.
- Strong knowledge of CNC programming, G-code, and CAD/CAM software.
- Experience operating both CNC and manual machining equipment.
- Proficient with precision measuring instruments and inspection techniques.
- Strong blueprint reading and mechanical aptitude.
- Excellent troubleshooting, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work safely in a manufacturing environment.
