Participant Advocate (Nonprofit)

You are a compassionate, reliable professional dedicated to supporting individuals experiencing homelessness. You bring a trauma-informed, housing-first mindset and are committed to fostering a safe, respectful, and dignified environment. You’re comfortable working with diverse populations, including individuals facing substance use, behavioral health challenges, and trauma, and you approach your work with empathy, professionalism, and strong boundaries.

Location: Santa Rosa, CA  Part time 4pm-8pm TEMPORARY ASSIGNMENT
This Position Pays: $22/hr

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Support daily service center operations to maintain a safe, clean, and respectful environment
  • Help with site opening/closing procedures and general upkeep, including some cleaning
  • Engage participants using a housing-first, trauma-informed, and harm reduction approach
  • Provide guidance, referrals, and support toward housing and stability goals
  • Model healthy behaviors and encourage positive communication and conflict resolution
  • Maintain professional boundaries while building respectful relationships
  • De-escalate conflicts and determine when to seek additional support
  • Assist with participant intake, enrollment, and ongoing documentation
  • Accurately enter and maintain data in systems such as HMIS and DataLink
  • Ensure timely, accurate completion of all required documentation and reports

What You Bring:

  • Experience working with vulnerable populations (e.g., homelessness, behavioral health, substance use)
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and housing-first principles
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a compassionate, nonjudgmental approach
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries in a dynamic environment
  • Conflict resolution and de-escalation skills
  • Comfort with facility operations, including cleaning and safety monitoring
