Tax Accountant (CONTRACT)
You are a detail-oriented and collaborative tax professional who enjoys working in a small, fully in-person office environment 3-4 days per week. You bring hands-on experience preparing tax returns, a solid understanding of accounting fundamentals, and the ability to work closely with partners on client work. This is a great opportunity to join a close-knit team with flexibility, reasonable hours, and potential for longer-term conversion.
This position pays: $30-35/hour depending on experience
Location: San Rafael, CA
What you will be doing:
- Preparing and inputting tax returns, primarily for individuals, with exposure to entities including corporations, partnerships, and trusts
- Assisting with income statements and balance sheets as part of tax preparation
- Using TaxAct software for tax preparation
- Supporting partners with tax data input and return preparation during tax season
- Collaborating directly with a small in-office team
- Maintaining accuracy, organization, and confidentiality across all client work
What you bring:
- Prior experience preparing individual tax returns
- Strong understanding of accounting fundamentals (debits/credits, journal entries, financial statements)
- Familiarity with TaxAct preparation software
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple returns and deadlines
- Professional communication skills and a collaborative mindset
- Comfort working in a fragrance-free office environment (no smoking or perfume)
