Operations Organizational Consultant (Nonprofit)
You are a nonprofit-savvy operational strategist with deep experience assessing and improving workflows in mission-driven organizations. You understand the unique demands of nonprofit operations, including cross-department coordination, frontline service delivery, compliance requirements, and resource constraints. You excel at diagnosing bottlenecks, strengthening communication, and creating actionable, realistic plans that elevate program impact. You communicate effectively with staff at every level from frontline teams to executive leadership and bring a collaborative, service-oriented approach rooted in nonprofit values.
Location: Novato, CA
This Position Pays: $75/hour
Project Duration: ~80 hours (project-based)
What You Will Be Doing:
- Conduct a comprehensive assessment of operational workflows, communication channels, and role clarity across Operations and key nonprofit functions (Programs, Finance, People & Culture).
- Review SOPs, policies, forms, and workflow documentation for consistency and alignment with nonprofit best practices.
- Identify bottlenecks, capacity challenges, turnaround delays, and compliance or risk gaps related to facilities, safety, and vendor management.
- Engage nonprofit frontline staff, supervisors, and leadership through interviews and focus groups to understand mission-driven needs and challenges.
- Observe nonprofit team meetings, coordination huddles, and frontline workflows to capture real-world operational dynamics.
- Produce a findings report with prioritized recommendations and a nonprofit-appropriate implementation roadmap.
- Identify feasible quick-win improvements that support immediate mission delivery.
- Facilitate a leadership session to align on priorities, sequencing, and ownership, ensuring organizational readiness for action.
What You Bring:
- Proven experience improving operations within nonprofit organizations.
- Expertise in nonprofit workflow analysis, program-operational alignment, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to build trust and rapport with nonprofit frontline staff and leaders.
- Knowledge of nonprofit compliance, risk areas, facilities/safety standards, and vendor management considerations.
- Demonstrated ability to develop actionable, resource-aware recommendations suitable for nonprofit settings.
- Skilled facilitator with experience guiding nonprofit leadership teams through prioritization and change management.
