Associate Director, Clinical Finance
You are a hands-on Clinical Finance leader who will serve as a strategic partner to Clinical Operations, owning clinical trial budgeting, forecasting, monthly accruals, and financial close activities across IDEAYA’s rapidly growing pipeline. You will support 1–2 active studies at a time (9 currently running), working directly with Clinical Ops, CROs, and R&D Finance leadership. This is a fast-paced, high-visibility role requiring strong clinical trial finance experience, excellent accuracy, and the ability to hit the ground running with little oversight.
This position pays: $90-95/hour
Location: South San Francisco, hybrid or remote
What you will be doing:
- Partner with Clinical Operations and CROs to manage clinical trial budgeting and forecasting
- Own monthly R&D accruals, with emphasis on clinical trial accrual accuracy
- Lead financial close activities related to clinical studies and other R&D initiatives
- Deliver monthly and quarterly reporting packages, including variance analyses for senior leadership and the Board
- Support development of annual budgets, multi-year forecasts, and strategic financial models
- Maintain and optimize FP&A tools (Adaptive Planning preferred)
- Analyze internal financial data to identify risks, trends, and opportunities
- Prepare and support presentations for senior management
- Ensure SOX documentation is accurate and maintained for assigned processes
- Perform ad-hoc FP&A and accounting tasks as needed
- Hit the ground running with minimal training or supervision due to fast-paced environment
What you bring:
- Strong clinical trial finance experience (required)
- Biotech or pharmaceutical industry background (required)
- 5–7+ years of FP&A, R&D finance, or clinical finance experience
- Experience supporting clinical trial budgeting, forecasting, and accruals
- Solid understanding of GAAP and R&D accounting principles
- Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills
- Experience with ERP + FP&A tools (Adaptive strongly preferred)
- Ability to hit deadlines consistently in a dynamic environment
- Strong communication skills and business-partner mindset
- Highly accurate, detail-oriented, organized, and self-directed
- Ability to thrive with limited oversight in a fast-moving, high-growth biotech
- Comfortable in an onsite environment and able to integrate quickly with Clinical Ops
