The Controller is a key finance leader responsible for managing day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate GAAP-compliant reporting for a nonprofit organization, overseeing audits, and maintaining financial compliance. This role partners closely with the VP of Finance, supervises accounting staff, and plays a strategic role in financial planning, budgeting, and system implementation.
Key Responsibilities

Oversee daily accounting operations: GL, AP/AR, banking, investments, and reporting.

Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.

Manage grants: tracking, reporting, invoicing, and compliance with funding requirements.

Maintain restricted fund records and payroll allocations.

Lead monthly and annual close processes with detailed analyses.

Prepare/distribute financial statements and budget-to-actual reports.

Direct annual audit preparation and auditor support.

Supervise and mentor accounting staff.

Assist leadership with strategic financial planning and initiatives.

Lead annual budgeting process and cost allocation models.

Conduct ad hoc financial analysis and forecasting.

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or Business required; CPA preferred.

5+ years in senior financial leadership roles, ideally in nonprofits with diverse funding streams.

Salary: $135,000 – $160,000 annually
