Accounting Clerk II
Location: Upper Lake, California
Salary Range: $22.00 – $35.00 per hour
Under the supervision of the Controller, performs routine accounting activities such as data entry, maintenance of the general ledger, and preparation of financial statements and reports. This role includes reviewing, coding, and verifying transactions, completing moderately complex calculations, and processing accounts payable and receivable. A key part of the position is reconciling accounts and bank statements while ensuring accuracy and compliance with established fiscal procedures. This role requires a solid foundation in bookkeeping and accounting practices, along with the ability to work under moderate supervision in a collaborative environment. Grant experience a plus!
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, reconcile, and close accounts, ledgers, registers, and journals.
- Prepare closing entries and conduct audit testing in accordance with guidelines.
- Process and approve payments; authorize expenditures from assigned funds.
- Perform account analysis, research discrepancies, and ensure compliance with policies.
- Prepare financial statements, reports, and projections, including internal cash flow statements.
- Conduct bank reconciliations and support the annual audit process.
- Maintain fixed asset tracking and an extensive file retention system.
- Assist with purchasing to ensure compliance with policies, grants, and budget requirements.
- Provide accounts receivable support, including billing for utilities and services, processing payments, and resolving discrepancies.
- Support the Fiscal Department with clerical tasks and interdepartmental coordination.
- Draft financial policies, procedures, and instructional documentation.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to local community history, culture, and values.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Teams, Outlook) and office equipment.
- Familiarity with accounting software (MIP, Microix, QuickBooks) or willingness to learn.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with professionalism and adaptability.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and time management.
- Ability to handle multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and work independently.
- Customer service-oriented and collaborative approach to teamwork.
- Availability to occasionally work overtime, including evenings, weekends, or holidays.
Education & Experience
Required:
High School Diploma/GED 2+ years of bookkeeping/accounting experience; or 4+ years of general accounting work experience in lieu of education.
Ability to pass a pre-employment skills assessment (attention to detail, math, Excel, reading comprehension).
Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
Must pass a background check and drug screening.
