Housing Director
Location: Lake County, California
Position Type: Full-Time
Salary Range: 80-$130,000 annually
The Housing Director is responsible for leading and managing the daily operations of the Housing Department. This role encompasses the development, implementation, and oversight of housing programs and policies that support sustainable growth and meet the evolving needs of the community. The Director ensures compliance with all applicable federal and state grant requirements, oversees housing-related projects and studies, and aligns departmental initiatives with strategic goals. This position may supervise staff and will serve as a key liaison between the organization and external housing agencies, partners, committees, and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor housing strategies, policies, and programs.
- Manage housing projects ensuring compliance with Federal and State requirements (including NAHASDA).
- Prepare and monitor budgets; ensure expenditures align with housing plan objectives.
- Research, write, and submit grant applications for housing initiatives.
- Prepare reports, application processes, and statistical data analyses.
- Conduct field inspections to assess housing needs and compliance with codes.
- Serve as a technical resource on building codes, laws, and regulations.
- Assist applicants through the housing application and counseling process.
- Supervise staff including hiring, mentoring, evaluations, and discipline.
- Provide regular reports and updates to leadership and stakeholders.
- Promote community education and outreach on housing programs.
Skills & Abilities
- Data Analysis & Research: Ability to evaluate housing needs and trends.
- Grant Management: Experience with Federal and State grants.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with NEPA, CEQA, and Davis-Bacon Act preferred
- Budgeting & Reporting: Strong financial and program management skills.
- Public Speaking & Outreach: Clear, confident communicator.
- Cultural Sensitivity: Understanding of community values and dynamics.
- Technical Proficiency: Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and accounting/reporting systems.
Education & Experience
- Prior leadership and staff management experience
