Staff Accountant – Commercial Real Estate (CONTRACT)
You are a highly motivated accountant with experience in commercial property management. The right candidate will be looking for a long-term full-time position and be able to commute to our corporate office in Petaluma, CA.
This position pays: $40-43/hour depending on experience
What you will be doing:
- Manage property tax information, ensuring timely payments, recording accruals and tracking assessed values.
- Approve and occasionally initiate wire transfers.
- Maintain accuracy of cash management spreadsheets.
- Review new leases for applicable CAM provisions and document CAM related provisions in Yardi and Excel.
- Manage retail / percentage rents.
- Prepare CAM Reconciliations for a portfolio of properties, coordinate the entering of adjustments and mailing of
- backup to tenants.
- Review and process internal management fee payments.
- Maintain compliance with local and state governmental agencies for each entity, help to research requirements if
- property is acquired in a new city.
- Generate adjusting journal entries with supporting backup.
- Monthly bank reconciliations.
- Assist with semi-annual budget process for property tax, insurance, business licenses and FTB taxes.
- Review balance sheet accounts including AR, AP, prepaid expenses and security deposits.
- Assist with onboarding new properties (acquisitions).
- Participate in the development, training, and implementation of new accounting policies, controls, and
- procedures.
- Support in testing and implementing new accounting software functions and features.
- Backup for AP and AR staff as needed.
- Ad-hoc tasks and projects assigned by manager.
What you bring:
- B.A. with a background in finance or accounting or equivalent education and experience.
- Minimum five years of accounting/real estate experience in commercial property management preferred.
- Intermediate to advanced Excel, Word, and Outlook, 10-key by touch and experience using property management
- software, Yardi Voyager preferred.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Experience in and works well in a fast paced, high-volume environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with all levels
- internally as well as outside the organization.
- Understand how to read legal documents including management agreements, loan agreements and tenant leases
- and apply the language therein to applicable circumstances.
